  1.  shì   is; am; are; to be

         我 是 (wǒ shì) Chelsea    I am Chelsea

         Chelsea 是中国人(shì zhōng guó rén) I am Chinese

        Chelsea 是个人才(Shì gè rén cái)      I am a talented person (:P)

2. yǒu   has/have

        我有熊先生  (wǒ yǒu xióng xiān shēng)  I have Mr Bear

        我有一副眼镜  (wǒ yǒu yī fù yǎn jìng)   I have a pair of glasses

        我没有手表 (wǒ méi yǒu shǒu biǎo)    I don’t have a watch

3. zuò to do

        做作业 (zuò zuo yè) 做晚饭 (zuò wǎn fàn)  做贼 (zuò zéi)

to do homework                   to cook dinner                 to act as a thief , to steal

4. chī to eat

       吃水果 (chī shuǐ guǒ)   吃东西 (chī dōng xi)

  to eat fruit                            to eat things (food)

5. to hitto beat

      打死你 (dǎ sǐ nǐ)     打篮球 (dǎ lán qiú)     打电话 (dǎ diàn huà)

  beat you to death        play basketball            to make a phone call

6. kàn to see; to watch; to look

      看电视 (Kàn diàn shì)   看书 (kàn shū)    看一下 (kàn yī xià)

to watch TV                       to read a book           to take a look

7.  shì to try

     试衣服 (shì yī fú)    试试看 (shì shì kàn)   试过了吗?(shì guò le ma)

      to try on clothes             to give it a go                    have you tried?

8. zuò to seat; to take (a public transport)

    坐下 (zuò xià)    坐公车 (zuò gōng chē)    坐飞机 (zuò fēi jī)

 to seat down              to take a bus                  to board a plane

9.  ná to take

    拿起来 (ná qǐ lái)  拿走 (ná zǒu)  拿掉  (ná diào)

      to take up              to take  away            to take off

10.  xué to learn; to study

     学游泳 (xué yóu yǒng)  学数学 (xué shù xué)  学开车 (xué kāi chē)

to learn to swim          to study maths          to learn to drive
